So, it's my favorite time of year. Fall foliage, crisp mornings...
Yes, it smells delicious, and we have all kinds of warm, fuzzy associations with pumpkin (pumpkin pie is my favorite), but pumpkin has many benefits for your skin and hair. It's full of vitamins, fruit enzymes, and alpha hydroxy acids to increase cell turnover, boost collagen production, and just make your skin look and feel great. What makes it extra effective is that the molecules are tiny enough to penetrate deeply.
So, let's get started!
For the Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub, you'll need:
-Pumpkin puree(canned pumpkin is perfect)
-Pumpkin Spice Blend
-Pumpkin Seed Oil (you may substitute any oil you have on hand)
The amounts you use are up to you, but if you want a nice texture to your scrub, I'd recommend using about 3 parts sugar to 1 part pumpkin. So, let's say:
1/4 C Pumpkin
3/4 C Sugar
1Tb Pumpkin Spice Blend
2 Tb Pumpkin Seed Oil
You can play with the ratio of pumpkin to sugar to get the texture you want.
Massage the scrub into your skin in the shower, and for super luscious skin, let it sit so those enzymes and AHA's have time to do their magic before rinsing. Your skin will be oh-so-soft and moisturized! And, you'll smell like pumpkin spice! Bonus!
But wait, don't jump in the shower just yet...we still have to make the face and hair masks!
Pumpkin Face Mask
You'll need more pumpkin, mashed banana, and some honey.
I used about equal parts of each, but again, have fun and experiment!
By the way, this face mask tastes delicious!
Pumpkin is also deeply conditioning for hair, and even has high potassium levels that encourage hair growth.
For the Pumpkin Hair Mask, you'll need:
-You got it...more pumpkin!
Again, you can play with the proportions, but you want it thick and creamy so it doesn't drip out of your hair. I used about equal amounts of each, and whisked them together in a bowl. You don't need to melt the coconut oil before using...just blend it in.
I coated my hair in the mask and put it on top of my head. It stayed in place while I applied my face mask, and then I relaxed and ate my pumpkin spice cake and savored my latte for about a half hour. Not really...I didn't have any cake or latte, but if I'd planned it out better, that's what I would've done...next time.
Now you can jump in the shower, scrub up, and rinse it all off! You'll need to wash your hair, and boy, will it be soft when you're done. My hair is normally very heavy, but it felt light as a feather as it dried.
You can see my face is a little red from the AHA action from the mask...
We were going out to a play that night (The Count of Monte Cristo at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival), and I felt so pampered and gorgeous! My skin was soft and moisturized, my face had a glow, and my hair was soft and shiny with nicely defined curls!
Enjoy your Pumpkin Spice Spa Day at home, but remember, there are no preservatives in these products, so you'll have to store them in the fridge and use them up within a couple days.
